Historic Sites in Galilee



1. Capernaum

This town was the base of Jesus' public ministry, and the ruins of the synagogue can still be visited today.

2. Mount of Beatitudes

The location where Jesus is believed to have delivered the Sermon on the Mount, which includes the Beatitudes and the Lord's Prayer

3. Tabgha

The traditional Christian site of the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes

4. Gennesaret / Ginnosar

A kibbutz that is also the location of the Yigal Alon Center ("Jesus Boat museum")

5. Magdala / Migdal

The present day town of Migdal stands on the spot where the biblical settlement of Magdala once stood. A synagogue and settlement from the Second Temple period has just been unearthed here.

6. Mount Arbel

Stunning views, hikes, and tours of ancient cave-fortresses and ruins are possible from this mountain which overlooks the Sea of Galilee.

7. Tiberias

Founded in the 1st Century, Tiberias is one of the Four Holy Cities of Judaism and is famous for its hot springs at Tiberias Hammat, which have been in use since Roman times

8. Yardenit

This beautiful location on the banks of the Jordan River is the choice of most Christians for baptismal ceremonies

9. Degania

Israel's first kibbutz, the site of a research institute and museum

10. Nazareth

The boyhood home of Jesus Christ

11. Cana

The site where Christians believe Jesus conducted his first miracle, the turning of water to wine

12. Tsfat / Safed

Center of Jewish mysticism and Kabbalah center
